While we're admiring this warrior bird I have to include an example of the male. This mature male will always clear the feeder before settling to feed, sometimes spending more time fighting than feeding. It'll be an immature male who will share the feeder with the females or another immature male. The buzzing noise these birds make in flight in substantial...and when they start to fight or mate it's impossible not to hear them around you. They are reputed to use human hair in their nests...a reputation I'm inclined to believe from having them shave so close to the top of my head as to be able to grab a hair on the way by.
These are just a few of the blessings within our spring landscape...is it any wonder we look forward to this season with such ardor?

Hi-ya Anne,
another captivating picture, this time the "male of the species".
Nothing remotely wimpy here, Mr Warrior spirit must have HIS turn; watch out buddy boys and gals!
